If you are reading this, you are most likely on a health journey yourself -or- you are looking to start working towards better health. If either of those describe you.. here is a virtual high five! I’m so excited you are here! My prayer is that you will find encouragement and inspiration through this blog as we give God all the glory! Before I dive into all the "how to's" of different health topics, I want to first share some personal convictions that I have experienced along my own journey to help you guard your heart and keep your eye on the Ultimate Prize. As you begin to take steps towards better health and steward your everyday choices wisely, remember to keep these two things in check:
1. Anyone and anything can become an idol, including your health journey. We are made to worship, and if we are not worshipping God, we are worshipping something else. If your health journey starts to become a little “g” god in your life and it consumes all of your thoughts and energy.. you may be idolizing health and potentially worshipping it. If you find yourself doing this, you may need to take a step back, dive into God’s Word, and spend time in prayer to refocus.
"Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry." 1 Corinthians 10:14
"Dear children, keep yourselves from idols."1 John 5:21
2. Don’t forget, God is sovereign. He is in control. You can do all the right things and still end up in a health crisis. Cancer, accidents, viruses, and so on.. there is so much that is out of our control. Our bodies are fragile and we are not promised restored bodies on this side of heaven.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." 1 Timothy 4:8
With that being said, our health journeys should be more about making intentional daily choices to steward well the gift of your body. It should be an act of worship in response to the Gospel. As Paul tells the church of Corinth, "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31.
